Helper’s of God’s Precious Infants Charlotte NC
On October 3rd, Very Reverand Mark Shuey the pastor of St. Nicholas Mission in Raleigh, North Carolina rose before sunrise. He still had the 2 drive later that morning. He packed his vestments to carry with him on the journey. After saying goodbye to his wife he would drive to Charlotte in order to lead a procession of Helper’s of God’s Precious Infants.
The Helpers of God’s Precious Infants was founded in 1989 by Monsignor Reilly. It is a Catholic pro-life apostolate that combines prayer and procession in order to confront the evil of abortion. The communication of the participants takes place between them and God. It is their belief that after they pray then God is able to act. The priority focuses on piety and prayer being the link between the believer and God.

Their prayer is in sharp contrast to the protestant methods of confronting the evil of abortion. The remnant of the protestant pro-life movement is lead by a few married moms with small children accompanying them. They along with the other women and very few men take a more direct form of communication between themselves and those considering aborting their unborn children. Their communication focuses on the link between them and those seeking abortion. It is a more extroverted and outgoing method that places more of a priority on verbal communication with the person rather then prayer communication with God above.
Fr. Mark Shuey had been invited by the leaders of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants in Charlotte for the Mass and Procession. These were Francesca, her husband, and Gretchen Filz.
Fr. Mark Shuey had led Mass in the Ukranian Rite earlier that morning at the St. Basil Mission located next to St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Their book of the liturgy had been published in 2004 and there were only a few differences between it and the Mass that was said.

There about twenty-seven Catholics in attendance that morning and they were a mix of all ages.
Fr. Deacon Matthew of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Rite Church Cary NC
Fr. Deacon Matthew assisted him as well as about three altar-servers. In their prayers they prayed to God as well as for the intercession of Saint Basil the Great.
Fr. Mark Shuey after Mass left the chapel, then returned to lead the first decade of the Rosary. He encouraged those who wished to stay to continue to do so and pray as long as they willed it. Many others went with him to the abortion facility located on Latrobe Street in Charlotte, NC. They then parked several minutes away from the abortion facility.

Then Fr. Mark Shuey led the procession of Catholics as they prayed the Rosary. They would process to a location on the sidewalk a short distance away from the abortion facility. Several other Catholics who were already there would join them. After the Rosary came a litany, then the chapel of Divine Mercy before they would finally proceed back to where they had parked. Preceding before them was a banner showing the icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe. After this the participants would depart in many directions and return to the responsibilities of their ongoing lives.
I feel that there are very few people who participate in pro-life activism. I understand the Republican Party has been playing the bugle for decades in order to gain pro-life votes but they will never charge. If the hundreds of thousands of registered voters in the area who thought themselves pro-life and voted pro-life would take the time to show up and pray then abortion would almost end in this city in less than a week.
